Running how long before it gets easier
Your mind is finally clear, calm and collected. So what are some tricks you can do to help you keep your mind focused while you work on your running strength? Here are a few tips that have helped runners of all skill levels feel like a confident, strong runner—even on their worst, no-so-easy run days.
If you rather run at night or during your lunch break, then go for it. Keep track when you have the most energy and use that time frame for your runs.
Just make sure you put your run on the schedule and stick to it. Run for a few in the morning and a few at night. Clear your mind and log a few miles at a time. Save a long run for the weekend or when you have more flexibility.
Experts are big fans of this approach for two reasons: 1 To avoid burn out, 2 To prevent injuries. If you start off running four or five miles and hate every minute of it, the likelihood of lacing up again is slim. The start of a running journey is not the time or place to overdo it. Make sure that you rest and sleep enough in between runs, giving your body enough time to repair and rebuild itself.
Get a running buddy. Sharing your miles and agony with someone can be wonderfully uplifting. Dress the part. Nothing fans the flame like some new running gear. So go on, treat yourself. Get a massage. If your budget allows, treat yourself to a regular sports massage. Hire a running coach. Think metric. Kilometers tick by a lot faster than miles, which can be mentally easier to bear.
So set your running watch to the metric system and rejoice as each kilometer flies by. Keep showing up So, whatever you do, keep showing up. Keep lacing up and heading out, even if it sucks.
